Chartreuse
Eerie and haunting photos, especially given your header.

Striking series of photos – I bet some horrific things happened in that orphanage – sad and eerie (as Charteuse noted).

Hi Gabrielle, yes it’s quite a frightening place and some of the photos I took when I was there are quite distrurbing, so I’ve kept them away from public view.
But I tell you, if anyone ever wants to set a horror film in a semi-wrecked Australian orphanage, St John’s in Goulburn would be the perfect place!

Yes, very very eerie. There must be so many stories beneath that decay.

Hi Maxine, yes, the stories that would be in that building, not all good, I’m sure. It wasn’t the most comfortable place to walk around. I’m not saying I could ‘feel’ anything from the past, just that it didn’t feel like a place where good things always happened. That and the fact a door kept slamming and pigeons came out of nowhere, frightening the living shit out of me.

Hi I’m really interested I the disturbing photos you took but have not published. How were they disturbing? The last official tenant was youth with a mission and nothing disturbing occurred whilst they were long term tenants. As the last tenants of the building and myself the cleaner at the time I’m very interested to understand what could possibly be disturbing photos. The items on the property that were disturbing are long gone and I’ve never heard mention of these specific items. I’m really interested to know what was left behind other than a great big mess and an abandoned building. There awesome very disturbing items at one stage but I wont say what they were as no one has ever noted them in text and I don’t believe there is anything disturbing there but bad memories. Please let me know. If you do I may just explain the disturbing items that I found there 20 years ago. Please and thannks mel

Hello, Mel.
I have lived in Goulburn all my life. At one point on Auburn Street, and you could jump the back fence and be in the orphanage. Whilst I was up there with some friends i encountered some very very strange and scary things. Since the roof caught fire, 10 months ago, yesterday, I have had the exact same dream about the Orphanage. What did you encounter? I’ll share my experiences if you share yours.

Hi Mel, it’s a very interesting place, isn’t it. I must say that when I visited a couple of years ago (it’s only a kilometre from where I live) I found it pretty disturbing. More just a feeling than anything else. I’d be interested in the objects you’ve mentioned. Best, Nigel
